Teach your bot
Add your website, files (PDF, Word, text, CSV) and your own questions and answers.
Your bot answers visitors only from what you add under Bot knowledge. If something isn't there, it says it doesn't know instead of making something up.
Your website
- Open Bot knowledge.
- Type your website address and click Save website.
- We read your most important pages first: about, services, prices, contact. A progress bar shows how many pages we've read and how many we found.
- You can keep working or even close the page. We keep reading and save it when it's done. A big site can take a few minutes.
How many pages we read: up to 25 on the Free plan and up to 50 on paid plans. We only read pages on your own website, and we skip pages your site asks search engines not to read (robots.txt).
If something goes wrong, for example your site is down, you see a short reason and your bot keeps everything it knew before. Just click Save website again.
Importing again replaces your old website import. It never removes your files or your own answers.
Keeping your website up to date
We read your website again every week, all by ourselves, so new prices and services reach your bot without you doing anything. Under your website address you see when it was last updated, how many pages were read and when the next automatic refresh is.
Changed your site today? Click Refresh website to read it again right away.
If a refresh can't read your site (for example it's down for a moment, or far fewer pages answer than last time), your bot keeps the pages it already had. You see a short note with the reason, and we try again the next day.
Files: price lists, menus, FAQs and policies
Under Files, upload a PDF, Word (.docx), text (.txt) or CSV file of up to 10 MB each. Your bot can use it right away and answers from it, for example a price that's only in your price list.
- Spreadsheets: save them as CSV (in Excel or Google Sheets: File, then Download or Save as, then CSV). Each row is kept together, so "Drain cleaning, $120" stays one answer.
- Older Word files (.doc): open them and save as .docx or PDF first.
- Scanned PDFs (photos of paper) are read with text recognition, up to 10 pages. Text that's typed into the file works best.
Each file shows its name, type, size, the date you added it and whether your bot is using it. Remove takes out only that file; everything else stays.
How many files you can keep: 3 on Free, 10 on Basic, 25 on Starter, and unlimited on Pro and Premium. Your files stay when your website refreshes.
Your own questions and answers
Under Questions & answers, write what customers ask most, like:
Q: Do you offer free estimates?
A: Yes, for homes within 20 miles of our office.
Click Add a question, type the question and your answer, and click Save. It's saved right away and your bot starts using it. When a visitor asks a matching question, your own answer comes first, even if your website says something different. Each question has Edit and Delete buttons, so you can change or remove it any time. Prefer to type everything in one box? Click Edit as text.
To get common questions for your trade, pick your type of business and click Use starter questions. Questions marked Fill in still have a [bracket]: click Edit and replace every bracket with your real answer. Your bot only uses answers with no brackets left, so it never says something you didn't write.
What your bot knows
At the bottom of Bot knowledge you see everything your bot uses. Remove anything out of date.
Check your work
Click Test your bot and ask questions like a customer would. To keep improving it, see Fix a wrong answer.
